Sitting Together

Carpet says to stay warm across the turf of ideas,
lacking the knowledge of inside, the turn of phrase -
the reminders to breath, to stay focused with b0undaries
strewn across the ottoman.

It takes yards of flavors to making touching palatable,
to bring us to where islands meet sky, where to knew
palaces dwell with discussion, announcing guests as
they descend the steps, bannisters waiting.

But no bannisters, just coffee, mugs hot with talk,
discussing who knows the next day, who knew the dire
circumstances would have brought us, diagonally opposed
to looks to say we are so different, try not to misunderstand
my point, and do the same likewise.

They the next time will be a comfort to lounge in socks
and dogs and cats, grasping for attention, yet surrounded
by humankind, the kind that drive great distances for a mere
definition of alma and mater - not fater or even father.

It's going to look brand new after we clean this rug of
tensile steel, to protect from errant arrows, attempting to
make do only with carpet, no wood veneer or shellac of
any kind that brings out stains, or the wood grain.
Let's discuss it later.
